When PFLAG started in the mid-1970s, the acronym “PFLAG” stood for “parents, families and friends of lesbians and gays” – but over the years, we’ve expanded our umbrella to include bisexual and transgender people, and those who are questioning their sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression. We gather because either we or someone we love or care about are members of this community.
The mission of PFLAG Sedona/Verde Valley is to:
- provide a support system for families and friends of lesbians, gays, bisexual and transgender persons in their effort to understand, accept and support their loved ones with pride;
- provide education for individuals and the community at large on the nature of homosexuality;
- support the full human rights and civil rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons;
- speak out and act whenever necessary to defend and enhance those human rights and civil rights.
