Scholarship Program

Jacqueline Richardson
and
James Dunne
Scholarship
Program

This is the ninth year that PFLAG Sedona/Verde Valley and Unify Sedona . . . a rainbow alliance are awarding scholarships. Thanks to generous donations made in honor of Jacqueline Richardson and James Dunne, we hope to continue this program for years to come. We intend to recognize outstanding lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and/or queer individuals, as well as straight allies, to encourage continuing education for self-identified LGBTQ+ individuals and their allies and foster a positive image of LGBTQ+ people in society.

Congratulations to 2024 Scholarship recipients!

Eligibility and Criteria for Awarding Scholarships
Applicants must be high school seniors or college students (ages 18-35) who reside in Sedona, the Verde Valley area, and the Prescott, Prescott Valley and Chino Valley areas of Arizona who are attending Mingus Union High School, Sedona Red Rock High School, Verde Valley School, Camp Verde High School, Prescott High School, Basis Prescott High School, Bradshaw Mountain High School, Chino Valley High School, Yavapai College, State and National Colleges and Universities, VACTE, and other vocational schools.

The scholarship funds have been primarily designated for LGBTQ+ students. Straight/cis allies must demonstrate active participation or experience in LGBTQ+ clubs, activities, volunteerism, attendance at meetings, etc. All applicants must demonstration of integrity and honesty, determination and potential to achieve goals, and financial need for those who meet previous criteria.

Priority will be given to first-time recipients. Past recipients who have received only one PFLAG
Sedona/Verde Valley and Unify Sedona scholarship are eligible for consideration for a second award (i.e. a student is not eligible after having received it twice).

Scholarship awards will be paid by check directly to the student. Recipients must attend a post-secondary educational institution within one year (this can include universities, colleges, community colleges, technical institutes, etc.) of receiving the award.

Applicants must submit an application (in full, following all directions) with required supporting materials by the application deadline.

The 2026 Scholarship Application deadline has passed.
Applications for 2027 awards will be available in early January.

If you are submitting materials by mail, be sure your postmark is dated no later than the application deadline!

Monthly Support Meetings

We meet the second Tuesday of every month from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m in The New Room of Sedona United Methodist Church (110 Indian Cliffs Road, Sedona) and on Zoom. A map is attached below.

Upcoming Meeting

We invite you to our next Support and Education meeting on Tuesday, June 9th, at 6:30 p.m. for some Pride month fun!  The meeting will be held at the Sedona United Methodist Church, New Room, located at 110 Indian Cliffs Road in Sedona.

Pride month is dedicated to the celebration of LGBTQ pride and commemorating the contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer culture and community. It is a month for love, celebration and living your best authentic life. We are hosting an Open Mic Night for our LGBTQ community and allies to have center stage for five minutes offering poetry readings, music, song, dance, comedy, juggling, magic tricks or whatever you would like to perform … provided it is PG-13 rated! It is time for fun, performance, and expressing our LGBTQ creativity.

Come a few minutes early to sign up at the beginning of our meeting for your five minutes of Pride month fame. Or simply be a part of the audience and enjoy the show.  As always, you may attend the first hour, second hour, or both.

Hope to see you there!
