Please join us at our Monday, March 12, 2018 support meeting of PFLAG Sedona/Verde Valley to celebrate PFLAG’s 45th anniversary as an organization. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Church of the Red Rocks, located at 54 Bowstring Drive in Sedona.
PFLAG was established 45 years ago in New York City by Mrs. Jeanne Manford, the mother of a gay son. The first PFLAG support meeting was held in March of 1973 and about 20 people attended the meeting. Since that time, PFLAG has grown to over 200,000 members and supporters and approximately 425 local affiliates around the United States. PFLAG Sedona/Verde Valley is one of those local affiliates and we were established in July of 2011.
During the first hour of the March 12th meeting, we will be showing short videos regarding the history of PFLAG, followed by discussion that will focus on the ways PFLAG has been of help and support to those in attendance.
The second hour will include our usual support group sharing and discussion session.
Finally, our designated charity this quarter (February-April), is PFLAG Sedona/Verde Valley’s very own Jackie “Gringa” Richardson Scholarship Fund. This is our first year offering the scholarship program to LGBTQ youth and those who are allies of the LGBTQ community. We are offering two, $500 scholarships this year. People wishing to donate to our scholarship fund may do so at the meeting or through our website at pflagsedona.org.
Please attend our Monday, March 12th support meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Church of the Red Rocks and learn about the history of PFLAG and celebrate our 45th anniversary as an organization. All are welcome to attend.
