The speaker for the Monday, March 9, 2015 support meeting of PFLAG Sedona/Verde Valley is Sedona Mayor, Sandy Moriarty. The meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. at The Church of the Red Rocks, Painted Cliffs Hall, 54 Bowstring Drive, Sedona, Arizona.
Mayor Moriarty has lived in Sedona for over 42 years and has been an active community volunteer ever since. Sandy worked on three committees between 1972 and 1987 to get Sedona incorporated, with the final effort being successful. Sandy was on the first Sedona City Council in 1988 and also served on Sedona’s Housing Commission for six years.
Mayor Moriarty was involved in local AYSO soccer for 17 years. She was one of the founders of Sedona Recycles in 1989. Sandy served on the Founding Committee and Board for the Verde Valley Wine Consortium and was the founder and Director of Sedona Winefest in 2009.
Ms. Moriarty was elected Sedona Mayor in November of 2014.
Mayor Moriarty will be speaking about the City of Sedona’s efforts regarding LGBTQ issues, including:
- Possible Human Rights ordinance for Sedona and how PFLAG can become involved.
- Discussion regarding possible sensitivity training for City of Sedona employees, including the police department and how PFLAG can help.
- Update on Sedona’s Civil Union ordinance.
- How the City of Sedona is working with the Chamber of Commerce to promote Sedona as an LGBTQ destination.
